Renew Sailing in The Conflict-prone Red Sea Region...

CMA CGM shipping company has resumed sailing in the conflict-prone Red Sea region...

The company said in its official statement that after reassessing the situation in the Southern Red Sea, it was decided to resume navigation in the Red Sea on a case-by-case basis. CMA CGM stresses that the ship's condition is carefully assessed before each transit, but it cannot predict or announce route selection.
CMA CGM said in the announcement that for those vessels deemed unable to pass through the Red Sea for safety reasons, they will continue to choose to reroute through the Cape of Good Hope.
Lars Jensen, a shipping analyst, believes the news is likely to be of concern to CMA CGM's customers, who will now need to reassess whether their cargoes are adequately insured.
"This of course means that shippers booking through CMA CGM ships need to carefully assess their cargo insurance to ensure it is valid in the risk areas of the Bab el-Mandab Strait and the Gulf of Aden, as they have no way of knowing in advance whether their cargo will be affected by the route choice."
Of particular note, this recommendation also applies to shippers who book through Ocean Alliance partners COSCO, Eva and OOCL services that may be operated by CMA CGM vessels.
